Typical VBM tissue processes may include steps that can increase apoptosis (cell death) and reduce osteogenic potential.3,4,5 Elutia’s proprietary gentle VBM process minimizes damaged, apoptotic (dying) cells resulting in VBMs that proliferate faster than competitive products, which is associated with greater osteogenic potential.2
Industry standard methods for cell counting cannot distinguish between living and dying (apoptotic) cells in the final product, leading to overestimates in the viable cell content of bone matrices. Elutia has developed a measurement system which can demonstrate the reduction in apoptotic cell content of its products.2
